October 2017 - How are you BALANCING Yourself this Fall?

Happy Fall!

As someone who has dabbled in yoga and meditation over the years, I decided to take a deeper dive this fall. I’ve just begun an intensive 6-month yoga teacher training program. What motivated me to take this journey is my desire to have wise teachers and experienced practitioner to help guide me in cultivating daily practices around mindfulness. Practices that include self-awareness, inner growth, connection, compassion and gratitude.

At the same time, I’ll be called upon to challenge my limiting beliefs and to find my voice through reading, writing, and practicing on the mat. My current voice is telling me to be brave as I step into this transformative experience and be open to what unfolds.

As we move into fall and the season of BALANCE, what can you do to dig deep and let go of? What BALANCE practices can you start today? How will you embrace change and growth? If you need some inspiration, we've included some excellent resources and relevant workshops in this issue of our newsletter.

Thanks for letting me share my story and best of luck on your courageous journey to living a fuller life!

The final phase in our year-long Transformational Wellness program, BALANCE, is designed to infuse balance across all areas of life--eating a balanced diet, preserving a healthy work/life balance, balancing exercise for full-body benefits, and maintaining a balanced state of mind.

HPMI's mission is to transform lives from the inside out, and the BALANCE curriculum pulls from proven practices in positive psychology, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence to provide specific interventions that will impact your emotional well-being immediately.

With the holiday season approaching, our Resources in this issue focus on two emotional well-being enhancers – happiness and gratitude. This research and these practical ideas will help you BALANCE light and dark, chaos and calm, and perfectionism and compassion.

"I believe we all want to live well. That's a given. The challenge is that we live very full lives that often conflict with this desire. The other big challenge is living in an information age. I find people are overwhelmed and need help sifting through all the information so they can focus on what to do and how to get it done.

Over the past 20 years working as a wellness professional, I have learned that there are many ways to access healing, change, and amazing transformations. We are complex creatures and that is a good thing. Often, to make the first step towards wellness we just need to have the information and support to take it."

"You can never do a kindness too soon, because you never know how soon will be too late."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

2017 Challenge Spotlight: Random Acts of Kindness

Have you ever offered up a smile to a stranger on the street and witnessed their mood change as they smiled back? How did that make you feel?

Research supports that acts of kindness—especially spontaneous, out-of-the ordinary ones—boost happiness in the person doing the good deed. In this 28-day challenge, participants will experience the joy of giving—to family, friends, co-workers, community, and themselves.

"This challenge was truly life-transforming. It got my mind off my own problems. It became a game each day to search for opportunities to be kind to others. I was amazed what a positive effect this challenge had on my physical, emotional and mental well-being.”
